FACE!:
GENERAL SCRUB
2 tablespoons organic oats, whirred up in the blender or food processor
1/2 teaspoon organic apple cider vinegar(you might want to water this down a bit, the fumes sometimes can hurt your eyes)
optional: 1/2 teaspoon oil such as sweet almond, jojoba, rice bran, grape seed, olive, etc(omit if your skin is oily, DEFINITELY add if your skin is dry)
optional: 1/2 teaspoon aloe Vera juice/gel(if you have issues with redness)
mix together and massage gently over face. leave on for 5 minutes or so & rinse with warm water. warm the mixture slightly prior to massaging on face if you want, it's kinda like being in a spa. :)
STRAWBERRY FACE MASK(for oily skin)
1/2 tsp lemon juice
1/2 cup organic strawberries
blend your gathered ingredients together and leave on pre-cleaned skin for ten minutes before rinsing off. be sure NOT to get it in your eyes, lemon juice kinda hurts there.
ANTI-ACNE FACE MASQUE(for acne-prone skin)
1/2 plain, organic oats
1 medium onion
green clay(optional, only needed if it's not thick enough by itself. green clay can be found at health food stores or beauty stores)
cook the oatmeal like you normally would(in water, not soymilk!), then set it aside to chill. peel the onion & finely shred in a food processor, to where it forms a smooth puree. add it to the oatmeal while it's still warm. smooth on your face, leave on for about 10-15 minutes. if mixture isn't thick enough to stay on your face, add green clay to thicken. this makes more than one batch & can be stored in the fridge for up to a week. :)
HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR FACE:
-your diet is the most important factor in how you look. after all, beauty begins from the inside out :) obviously, veganism is highly recommended, as while dairy, eggs, & honey all have some small benefits, the amount of cholesterol & saturated fat(or in the case of honey, overload of sugar) nixes those benefits. not to mention, dairy causes acne in many people. stick to veganism & you'll have a clear face to go along with your conscience.
-not only should you cut out the bad stuff like animal products, fried foods, & fatty stuff from your diet, but add the good stuff in too! drinking water helps hydrate your skin & keep the cells doing what they're supposed to, & eating all varieties of fruits & vegetables! & don't forget to eat healthy fats such as olive oil, avocados, or raw nuts.
-protect your skin from the sun & wind! use the proper spf vegan sunscreen when you go out.
-ladies, remove your face makeup when you go to bed! Not doing so can cause oily build up & result in acne. :( no bueno.
-if you have acne scars, rubbing apple cider vinegar or onions(yes, onions) on the scars can help reduce them.

HAIR!:
CURLY HAIR TREATMENT
1/2 cup olive oil
10 drops organic lavender essential oil
place olive oil in a sauce pan and warm it gently. the oil should not be hot, just warmed. remove from head and add lavender oil. double check the temperature, and then apply to your natural curls. wrap in a towel, and relax for twenty minutes. wash out with a gentle shampoo(may require more than one washing). you may follow up with your conditioner, if you like. your hair might have a bit of a greasy feel for a day or so, so it's best to do this when you have time to yourself for a few days :)
TREATMENT FOR DAMAGED HAIR
1 cup prepared organic rooibos(red) tea
8oz. cocoa butter
make the tea as you normally would. melt the cocoa butter in a pan until it becomes liquid. mix it with the tea, apply to hair after it's cooled a bit, & let dry. rinse out(it will take a while!) & be prepared to have kinda greasy hair for a few days(it'd be best to do this on a Friday night of a boring weekend where you won?t be seeing anyone).
DRY HAIR TREATMENT
2 tbs. avocado oil
1 tbs. castor oil
2 tbs. rosemary tea(brewed from fresh rosemary, preferably)
mix together all ingredients in a bottle, & shake well. use before shampooing & conditioning.
LEMON HAIRSPRAY
1 lemon(or orange) cut into wedges
2 cups of water
boil the wedges & water together, until about half the mixture is left. let it cool, strain it, & put into a spray bottle. if mixture is too sticky, add water. to make the hairspray last a week longer add a tablespoon of rubbing alcohol. if the lemon hairspray causes dry hair, use an orange instead.
HOMEMADE SHAMPOO
1 spray bottle
2 green tea bags
1 tablespoon baking soda
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 drops rosemary essential oil(or anything else you want your hair to smell like!)
water
boil about 9 ounces of water in a tea kettle, or in a coffee mug in the microwave. once the water is heated, steep the green tea bags for 4 to 6 minutes. discard the tea bags. let the tea cool for a few minutes before carefully pouring into the spray bottle. add in the baking soda, lemon juice, olive oil and essential oil. fill the rest of the way with warm or cool water and shake well.
HOMEMADE CONDITIONER
1 cup water
juice from 1/2 lemon
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
mix together in container, massage into hair & scalp, & rinse with cold water.
HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR HAIR:
-again, diet is the most important factor in how your hair looks. keep the nasty crap out of your diet, & up the water, fruits/veggies, & healthy fats, & your hair will be smooth & shiny.
-pay attention to what type of hair you have! if your hair is dry & brittle, add coconut or jojoba oil to your shampoo. if it's too oily, use apple cider vinegar.
-want extra shine in your hair? try taking a few cold showers. cold water allows nutrients to stay in the hair easier, so it comes out looking extra-shiny.
-avoid products with sodium laurel(or laureth) sulfate in them! this ingredient is a by-product of the petroleum industry & is responsible for your hair becoming so oily so quick after washing. when you first start to avoid this product, your hair may become wonky, greasy, etc. but after a little while it will adjust, so be patient :)

TEETH!:
TOOTHPASTE
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp finely ground sea salt
A drop of peppermint, spearmint, etc. (Pick what you would like your toothpaste to taste like and use that flavor.)
A splash of tap water
mix all the ingredients until it forms a paste thick enough to put on your toothbrush.
TEETH WHITENER
1 strawberry
1/2 teaspoon of baking soda
crush the strawberry to a pulp, then mix with the baking soda until blended(easier if you have a magic bullet!). use a soft toothbrush to spread the mixture onto your teeth. leave on for 5 minutes, then brush thoroughly with toothpaste to remove the berry-baking soda mix. rinse. (a little floss will help get rid of any strawberry seeds.) Apply once a week.
ROSEMARY MINT MOUTHWASH

1 teaspoon rosemary leaves
1 teaspoon anise seeds
boil water, then add mint, rosemary, & anise. let this boil for about 20 minutes. Use when cooled.

2 oz filtered water
1/4 tsp baking soda or sea salt
1 drop of pure peppermint oil
mix all of the ingredients together and swish like you normally would. this is only for one serving.
HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR TEETH:
-diet is once-again very important. don't eat too much sugary stuff, as this can cause cavities or wearing of the enamel. & be sure to brush after every meal ASAP!
-be sure to not only brush your teeth, but also your gums, tongue, & the roof of your mouth. Bacteria lives there too, people!
-brush along to your favorite song(provided it isn't like 10 minutes). about 2 1/2 - 3 minutes is how long you should be brushing.
-don't forget to floss! but use unwaxed, because waxed floss isn't vegan unless it absolutely says so(ewwww! do you really want beeswax all up in your teeth?!)
-if you can?t brush after eating, rinse your mouth out with some water. it'll help, trust the kid who's never had a cavity :)
-fluoride is often attributed to healthy teeth, but really, if you live in an area where fluoride is in the water & you DRINK the water, then you'll be okay."
